Bringing together the oral tradition and genealogical research of the Gowens originating in County Cork, Ireland

Welcome!
If you are a Gowen we may be related!
Although the surname is not exactly common, there are a several branches - this blog attempts to document my particular branch - various Gowen Clans originating from Ballyhooly in southern County Cork, such as those from Youghal, Ballyhindon, Kilworth, Kilcullen/Kilkenny and elsewhere.
It is fascinating to learn about your ancestors and the internet has made it possible to communicate and research our family histories more easily than ever before.
However, although the basic genealogy charts are interesting, the most fascinating and intriguing stories are those that are passed down orally down through the generations.
But the problem is that as we become older, the oral tradition of the previous generation can become fainter and even disappear, as family members move away or are too busy to quiz the older members of the family. I myself have seen almost all of the previous generation fade away, leaving a number of intriguing questions about some of my ancestors.
Hopefully this blog will help to draw memories from the different Clans on how we are all related and how those families are spreading around the world.
